more weirdly they were caught routing user traffic through their own affiliate links a few years back—mostly for crypto currency sites I think? Oh yeah also, the CEO is/was VERY into crypto (cite: https://www.pcmag.com/news/brave-browser-caught-redirecting-users-through-affiliate-links )
