@Lady @aschmitz @aescling if someone said “platos cave is a metaphor for how the constructions of society blind us to deeper truths” i might quibble with the second half of their sentence but the first would not even register to me as arguable

@Lady @aschmitz @aescling i’ve always viewed metaphor as the broad umbrella category which includes both similes and allegories and also other things which we haven’t named and therefore just get called metaphor by defauly

@rowyn well, in that case I look forward to finding out what totally innocent adventures—definitely not at all provoked by Umbral planning to go on a dangerous quest for several weeks—Cassie got up to next entry

@rowyn sure, its possible she just got distracted mid-sentence by something totally harmless and never came back to it

that has never once happened before of course, but we can’t know for sure

@rowyn …well now I’m concerned. I hope Cassie is okay!

@celli@octodon.social people existing when you’re hangry is the worst to be fair

@Betty thank you! and like two hours ago, so you were very fast to notice

not serious, industry nonse

@akjcv @Lady living in DC of course being to expensive for most people who live in DC

@Betty ahh yeah goldfinches are pretty! they like to eat the Echinacea seeds in my parents yard

Noise, restaurants, health

@naugeleh ahhhh it may have been that when fedi generated the preview card it lost the gift link redirect—clicking the text link seems to work!

Noise, restaurants, health

@naugeleh article is paywalled so apologies if it already covers this, but one thing to note is that a lot of the elements we associate with “fine dining” were noise dampeners —-big heavy drapes, plush carpets, tablecloths, etc all cut down on the amount of noise thats produced and also on the amount than can echo around the space
