If it helps I ended up tearing through it at a speed I’d forgotten I could manage—it doesn’t require a ton of close concentration to just wallow in the delightful iddyness of it all and, while there’s some politicking its largely either handwaved or laid out pretty straightforwardly—none of the chinese court drama “okay please remember these twenty peoples names, titles, courtesy names, motivations and relationships to eachother” lmao
@celli@octodon.social read hands of the emperor first and then you can poke around at the rest if you’re sufficiently hooked—that fic also assumes you’ve read at the feet of the sun & some of the novellas but just the first one will get you a good enough idea of the canon for you to manage

@pixouls i always enjoy looking at mushrooms which have the weird flaky textures from their veil remnants. @bright_helpings febreeze actually ran entire ad campaigns attempting to train people to do exactly that in the 90’s/early 2000’s—guess this means it worked, even if they couldn’t get her brand loyalty in the process haha
