@kittyc @Forestofglory investigation (reading dubiously sourced internet recipes) reveals a range of recommendations from “boil 1 min” to “rinse in hot water” to chucking straight in the pan depending on how thin the noodle is, how wet the sauce is and how firm one wants the noodle, yeah. so i suppose water is involved in the cooking process in some capacity 😂

@kittyc @Forestofglory yeah no i have made european egg pasta which gets boiled! these are much thinner and generally aiming for a firmer final texture though

@kittyc @Forestofglory i could be wrong! but i had thought they only needed to be boiled/soaked if they’d been dried instead of prepared fresh

@kittyc @Forestofglory ramen noodles i think get dried to dehydrate and then boiled to rehydrate which i’ll accept as a noodle, but i’m unsure if i’ll accept chow mein noodles (fried only)—despite the name they feel like a different category to me

@seanpatrickphd @Forestofglory so you don’t include anything made fresh in your noodle ontology?

@Forestofglory my inclination was to say yes it must be boiled but those are admittedly quite noodle like so now i’m undecided

re: Fallout New Vegas

@aescling @wallhackio …to download modpacks??

Fallout New Vegas

@wallhackio she is also threatening to break into your house and install mods that make all the minigames harder

Fallout New Vegas

@wallhackio M wants to know why there isn’t just a mod you can download for this

@sissi possibly related, in that nicotine is an appetite suppressant?

re: In defense of misunderstanding as a plot device, speculation on a culture not my own

@ljwrites @JessMahler semi relatedly, in that this is often my complaint about misunderstanding plots (though it can also come up in other situations) is i really don’t particularly enjoy stories where the expectation is a HEA/HFN and yet one is left with the ominous certainty that while this *particular* conflict has been resolved, a near identical one is likely to pop up five minutes from now because no one’s bothered learning anything from the first one

this is perhaps why i love pride and prejudice despite generally considering myself to dislike misunderstanding plots—resolving the misunderstandings doesn’t actually solve anything! genuine efforts to improve their own characters that are driven by resolving those misunderstandings is what actually drives the resolution.

@amy yeah this is essentially why i quit tumblr also—just infinite permutations of “everyone needs to see this upsetting thing for some reason” (+ the reblog button making it way to easy to reshare without really thinking about which, at least reddit doesn’t do that bit)

@Betty @duinath or he was gonna make beaver hats out of the prepared pelts but just never got around to it for whatever reason and then his grand were like “well I don’t know how to make a hat out of this, and also he gave every single one of us a hat for our tenth birthday anyway”

Unfortunate last names; sex mention

@xieliansbignaturals it predates the modern sense of the word cum, which when spelled with the U has only been around since the 1970’s or thereabouts

anyway according to wiktionary it seems to be one of the “from place” names, specifically referencing Commin near Rouen or Comines near Lille

@duinath @Betty maybe PA just has too many taxidermy freaks because this still seems pretty plausible to me as donation material 😅

@duinath @Betty i have some family members who help run a small community museum@and the sheer amount of crap in the world is just boggling. If you express even a whisper of an interest you can get a hundred china cabinets for the cost of having a truck to pick them all up with

@duinath @Betty sure but if its a well known enough org then you can get thirty grandmas old furs and now you’ve got a room with ninety mink stoles in it

@Betty people cleaning out their grandparents estates
