@aescling i dont quite get the point of trending links tbh
Hashtags sure but why links??
BTS, Grammy Awards
@emma ah yeah that’d do it
BTS, Grammy Awards
@emma what did they do?
@emma yeah no i mean regardless of whether thats true, i don’t think it justified being mass murdered
(Theres time-travel, so “just met” for one half is “dating for a year” for the other and vice versa)

@rabbithearth @greyor@weirder.earth this math is s neat way of doing it! I would probably mess up the mod6ing haha
i’m in a differently weird dice camp — I own an alarming number of d6’s and no other dice
@aescling i think it probably makes a lot of sense for big impersonal instances like the ones Gargron runs, but there’s no way to turn it off or even modify the language used in the emails if you have a different type of community where its not appropriate
Which is v standard for mainstream mastodev I think unfortunately
@aescling basically there are a lot of reasons an admin might want to delete something that doesn’t need the whole “you violated community standards & a warning has been added to your account” language (accidentally sending a DM as a public post was one if their examples) and as a mod they’d rather have you know, a decent relationship with their users where they can talk about what went wrong when theres an actual issue instead of automated generic threats
@aescling i saw a good thread about that last week from one of the admins of bsd.network — followers locked tho, so I cant link

@eldang i’d present a third category, which is like the second in that its a funny ridiculous gag but the company actually plays it straight and lets anyone who really wants to buy the thing buy the thing (for example, if you buy magic the gatherings “left handed” cards today, they will actually send you a copy of the card with the art flipped: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/secret-lair-knows-its-left-its-other-left-2022-04-01

@kiesa i mean i’m glad that kids are learning cooking terms — sometimes it feels like we’ve given up on the idea of cooking as a common skill. But yes definitely needs to be learning, and not just assuming they know with no context!
possibly too much information on pool vs billiards, I guess I’m proving this stereotype I only just learned about right?
@Canageek@cybre.space @IceWolf
pool tables have pockets and you generally score by knocking the balls into said pockets (in eg 8 ball, which is the most popular type of pool, there are additional rules about which can be pocketed when)
Billiards is a broader term that *technically* applies to pool but also applies to all other games involving knocking balls around with a cue on a table. So since pool is a popular billiards variant, people often use the term billiards to mean ‘a billiards game that is not pool.’ These games are played on pocketless tables, so its reasonable to make a distinction
