It is the time of the semester when only irasutoya's person who does not get out of the futon can express my emotions

re: historical racism

@ljwrites yeah I'm really enjoying working with his interviews!

re: historical racism

After discussing an event where he had to testify in court about racism in the university & admitted that he was the only black person in his department & was also the only person who hadn't received a raise: «Now I’m not saying somebody discriminated against me, they just treated me differently»

re: historical racism

@ljwrites yeah he's a really interesting interview subject, because he's very unwilling to say anything that would come off as...challenging? But at the same time he very clearly spent his entire time in academia challenging racist systems & advocating for black students so there's just shadows like this line everywhere where you can infer a lot of the stuff he's not quite willing to actually openly accuse the university of

@mythologybot alright curse breaking via royal titty milk is a new one for me

historical racism

@ljwrites its slightly clearer in the full context — this is the middle of a ~3 hour interview I’m processing

historical racism

@ljwrites order of appointment to the committee — so he was either the last guy or literally added after they realized they’d filled all the seats with white people

historical racism

A professor discussing his appointment to a committee meant to promote equity for black students on campus in the late '60s: «I was 21 or 22 on a committee of 21, I was the only Black person in the room»

@aescling japan has excellent taste in flowers, as always

kidposting, language, autism thoughts

@ljwrites ugh yes you are almost certainly right about all of this :/

Since society is so verbally dominated there is certainly a logic to encouraging at least baseline fluency, but all kids should have choices about how they communicate & be given the tools that work best for them!

@Lady what does the uu have to do with British pride

kidposting, language, autism thoughts

@ljwrites i mean obv this shouldn’t be your primary mechanism for deciding whether or not to utilize it *anyway*, tater’s needs & comfort should come first

kidposting, language, autism thoughts

@ljwrites i’m not up on the research but my understanding was AAC normally aids verbal speech development rather than hindering?

Food

@kiesa yeah molasses definitely isn’t for everyone! I’m sure you’ll figure something out :)

I don’t think it’s too common outside of PA, but its easy enough to make if you ever decide to try it. I’m a big fan even tho its generally regarded as a bit old fashioned these days

Food

@kiesa shoofly pie is very cakey, if eldest child likes molasses?

Satsuma boosted
