re: non vegan re: food Q

@rabbithearth @compostablespork @packbat I've had much more luck growing coriander than cilantro, which is to say, my plants always seem to go to seed before they're big enough to properly harvest greens from

re: non vegan re: food Q

@rabbithearth @compostablespork @packbat yep, seeds and leaves! As per wikipedia:

«Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) is an annual herb in the family Apiaceae. It is also known as Chinese parsley, dhania or cilantro All parts of the plant are edible, but the fresh leaves and the dried seeds (as a spice) are the parts most traditionally used in cooking.»

re: non vegan re: food Q

@compostablespork @rabbithearth @packbat 😆

Yeah I’d put all the peppers together, as well as the different parts of the same plant stuff (coriander & cilantro, nutmeg & mace, etc)

re: non vegan re: food Q

@rabbithearth @compostablespork @packbat i do think ones spice drawer should count tho--a little cayenne might not be doing much nutritionally but it can make something completely inedible to someone with the wrong condition

re: non vegan re: food Q

@rabbithearth @compostablespork @packbat I'm trying to come up with a (chronic illness treatment) diet that makes a distinction between fresh brassicas and coming up completely blank, so I'll have to concur

re: food Q

@compostablespork also, how are we counting salt here?

re: food Q

@compostablespork an extremely conservative list (aka, i grouped similar things into single bullet points, I only put down stuff I ate often enough to think of immediately, & I didn't go look at the ingredients lists for the prepackaged foods in the house) puts me easily in the forties.

As my diet is heavily based on my sisters food restrictions -- I learned to cook just was she was switching on to it & never really fell out of the habit -- I would predict pretty much every time I eat out I manage to hit at least three things not included on my current list. For her at least, adapting her diet at home was *much* easier than managing to find food other people had made that she could eat

I think dreamwidth is having some sort of intermittent server issues?

food

@hafnia@weirder.earth i’ve also gone almost entirely vegetarian recently, mostly as a byproduct of the move

@ljwrites @hafnia@weirder.earth @nomad @rabbithearth you can choose whether or not you want to keep the nips when getting top surgery! So that’s always been my personal theory

@Lady thats because you arent in the right discords

I don’t use it on fedi

@pamela only when i can get it fresh (which i can't, currently) -- dried parsley is absolutely not worth it imo

but my grandmother grew parsley in her kitchen garden & it was definitely a staple of her cooking so there are a lot of soups that don't taste quite right to me without it

re: food, answer?

@monorail oh huh now i’m curious!

@alis trying to imagine what legitimate purposes someone might have for bulk lots of knives &….

@WanderingBeekeeper is ‘my kids spouse/partner/other half’ not appropriate in this context?

Also generally I would recommend asking them directly
