you are not obligated to approach all traditional knowledges with suspicion; nor to justify them, where necessary, with hard and easily comprehensible fact
i hereby liberate you
anyway nothing rustles my jersey quite like programmers who treat web technologies as needlessly complex because they are more robust than their controlled pocket operating system that nobody else will ever use, and as somebody who spent years listening to people complaining that gender trouble was needlessly obtuse, it sounds the exact same
you may ask what web technology has to do with gender trouble and in the asking of that question i can guarantee that you do not understand gender trouble
« But 24 hours with Gender Trouble has refined the screaming in my head to a very clear proposition that has nothing to do with anything I was thinking before I opened the book: there are some things that are hard for no reason and there are some things that are hard for a reason. » web technology is hard for a reason
when i found out about mastodon it was because it was (a) new, (b) during the 2016 presidential election / immediate aftermath, and (c) queer techies were talking about it
(a) and (b) are not true anymore and the only people in the (c) camp are either already on mastodon or hate it
like, you do realize this is a fictional character, you are not actually consigning a real person to this fate, it’s just a story
imagine writing a javascript tutorial and just assuming that if your reader understands “arrays”, “objects”, and “basics of classes” that will be fine
most JavaScript tutorials read to me in a way i can honestly only describe as contemptuous; they obscure basic language features on the assumption that readers are not capable of understanding them, really a reflection of the fact that the post author does not feel comfortable explaining them or does not understand them themselves
Administrator / Public Relations for GlitchCat. Not actually glitchy, nor a cat. I wrote the rules for this instance.
