biden campaign

for the record i don’t have a strong opinion on the “Biden serves until he dies and then Harris takes over” VS “Harris takes over now” debate but if they’re going to do the first one they should stop making such blatantly politically toxic moves

Show thread

biden campaign

• debate fiasco
• “i’ve been staying up past my bedtime”
• no communication for days
• “i don’t believe that voters are actually worried” / “polls are fake news”
• “i’ll be happy if trump wins so long as i tried my best”
• radio interviews to show he can think on his feet; later comes out that they were scripted by the campaign

biden campaign

really is speedrunning “how many bad looks can we give in a week” huh

everybody loves file·names which begin with U+002D HYPHEN-MINUS

like obviously fair use uses are NOT inherently re·usable, so REUSE does not apply. however,

Show thread

i realize that technically the way to signal “this file is under copyright, has no licence, and is distributed because the repository owner believes its inclusion is fair use” is to simply not be REUSE compliant, but it still feels bad

united states politics

“replacing Joe Biden means leaving behind a candidate voters picked for a candidate they didn’t” yes, because it was definitely voters who picked Joe Biden

on 04 July 1776 there definitely wasn’t a United States or anything like it

it was a different time

you ever be on tumblr reading a post and the person says something that seems a bit sus so you check their profile and see the phrase “comically cynical of reality” and yep there’s a young white trans girl racist no doubt

you can publish open source software without providing so much as an email contact, much less a listserv, forum, or other community space

i’ve committed code to this repo every month this year and i’m just waiting to see how long that goes on for

@thomholwerda as it happens, i was coincidentally scoping out the Ladybird dev team a few days ago, before this latest announcement, because they were linked in (iirc) an old Servo blogpost and i wasn’t familiar with them at that point

i pulled up awesomekling’s account on X.com and the first thing i saw was a laudatory quote-boost of Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz’s talk show

immediately lost all interest in the project

the reason why umbreon is always so angsty is because espeon is straight

(original post wasn’t about Swift, but i was just thinking about it versus such languages as Zig and Rust which target much larger sets of platforms)

Show thread

it does bother me that Swift isn’t more portable but i also understand that the reason Swift isn’t more portable is because it supports such advanced features as “Unicode”

and i would take “there are just multiple interoperable Swift implementations”; that would be better actually

Show thread

which is more efficient:

• writing the software library once, making it portable across many platforms, and then dealing with the ensuing portability concerns for decades to come

• writing the software library multiple times
