i've been playing pokémon dream radar which is three dollars on the nintendo eshop and remembering a time when tiny weird three dollar games from major publishers was an acceptable thing

for the price of a little bundle of game currency you used to be able to get a whole-ass game

100% juice?! i thought this was apple cider!

« If there have been demons under the floor for as long as the world has existed... then Din, Nayru, and Farore deliberately chose to make demons. » glad to see this theological debate playing out in Zelda fandom too

gotta say the Sealed Chamber is still one of the coolest pokémon concepts

the other change that Scarlet and Violet made which annoys me MORE is the box system sucks, but i could see them patching this one lmao

Show thread

this is a tiny thing and probably like <1% of players ever used this option but i would have because i think it makes things more interesting

Show thread

one change Scarlet and Violet made which annoys me is they removed the option to have the game not ask you whether you want to switch pokémon when you defeat an NPC in a trainer battle

for the record, i’d root for the lions even if the seahawks had lost

📟🐱 GlitchCat Sunday Post, 08 January 2023

The GlitchCat offers news and updates from our corner of the fediverse to yours.

§ Current Events :—

cybre.space has switched into read‐only mode, as was the plan for the new year.

The American Dialect Society has announced the 2022 Word of the Year, and it’s -ussy. A·D·L writes “now everything is either a cat or a cavity”, but of course we all know which of those is the affix’s usual referent.

§ From Our Users :—

@aescling is playing Pokémon Scarlet and enjoying the poképussy so far (Meowscarada).

@Satsuma is now in a different time zone, so expect favs from them to come a few hours offset from when they were before.

§ Holidays and Observances :—

• ⏳ 11 January is Carmentalia. This is a Roman festival we know very little about, except that it was celebrated on two dates (the other was 15 January), observed primarily by women (Carmenta was a goddess of childbirth and prophecy), and invoked Postvorta and Antevorta, aspects of Carmenta pertaining to looking back (into the past) and forward (into the future). As a date near the new year, it’s a good opportunity for reflection and resolution; I really couldn’t care less otherwise regarding the original Roman meaning.

some good phrasal template nominees:
• it's the X for me: single out the funny or notable aspect of something
• X hits different: describe X as meaningfully affecting

“blorbo (from my shows)” was nominated for “most creative woty”

Show thread

“informal woty” nominations (did not win):
• the ick: feeling of disgust about one’s date
• menty b: mental breakdown

Show thread

“touch grass” almost won “digital woty” but lost to “-dle” as in “Wordle”

Show thread

a bit offended that “quiet quitting” won “most useful” and wasn’t even on the list for “euphemism of the year” (which was “special military operation”)

Show thread

is this better than Oxford Dictionaries’ “goblin mode”? unequivocally

ADS word of the year is out and it’s -ussy

Sooooo... the American Dialect Society's Word of the Year is "-ussy", and I am personally thanked in their primary scholarly reference for "-ussification", a paper called "A corpus study of phonological factors in novel English blends."

The announcement: americandialect.org/2022-word-

The paper (PDF): cla-acl.ca/pdfs/actes-2018/Dow

And my citation attached ehehehehe

« Although infants very rarely appear, the anime has confirmed that humans, such as Edna, can get pregnant. »

also pokémon 🤝 star wars
a fairly narrow (but still self‐contradictory) band of core canon which everyone tries to stick to, and an expansive universe of stuff which just kind of riffs on the themes
