everything i’ve heard from Northwestern is that they’re a great place to work and they’re in Evanston!! all my folks love Evanston!!
why did they sign up for a grant to bring AI into libraries tho!!
i jest but this is social media where there are no consequences to anything, and having large numbers of people routinely fucking around and finding out is an extremely viable strategy for garnering sympathy.
the things you gotta learn are :—
• antiracists on fedi aren’t invading social circles, breaking down doors, flipping over tables, rifling thru drawers. they’re standing in one place and that place is usually pretty clearly labelled. racists go and come to them.
• the REASON racists go and come to them is to manipulate you and garner your sympathy, or as a kind of perverse show of solidarity within their own ranks. they are doing this willingly and voluntarily, fully expectant of the consequences, because they have decided that the consequences (getting blocked and reported by an antiracist) do not matter to them.
and yo, stop giving them the time of day. stop being a pawn in their boring, self-aggrandizing game of chess. you see a racist get taken out? you say “well, i guess they got what they asked for” and move on. you don’t give it any more seconds of your thought than that. savvy?
if you don’t roll up to “nazi haters incorporated” looking like a nazi i think you’ll probably be fine there, dude
Racism in the Fediverse: Eris of Disqordia

I wanted to put my thoughts on Eris and racism on fediverse in video form so here it is.
I want this wide. Boost boost boost. I want this on every fediverse instance's timeline.
@baldur anyway, putting blame where it is deserved, it’s actually Mozilla and Opera and WHATWG who killed XML by saying “actually just HTML and JS, the things we are already dominant market players for, is fine and all anybody really needs”
and in terms of Mozilla, probably specifically Brendan Eich, as i understand
@baldur i use XHTML for basically everything personally, because “keep the data in XML and transform to XHTML” is a trivial operation (with XSLT; you can even deliver the data in its original form to the user and have their browser do the transformation if you want), and MUCH better than the more contemporary “keep the data in JSON/YAML and use a heavyweight build step written in NodeJS or Ruby to transform it to HTML”
but
yeah, module scripts (<script type="module">) still don’t have support in Webkit and maybe Blink in XML documents, and it is a real thorn in my side
@aschmitz i have beef with ActivityStreams, which is otherwise quite popular, is probably the biggest thing to be aware of; disregarding the rest of the model, its Collection classes are quite heavily used and i’m still undecided whether i personally want to draw on them or lean on more oldfashioned approaches
@packetcat oh damn this is more sadiq content than i was expecting good work
@aschmitz it’s definitely not complete! there are some other vocabularies i’m already looking at adding but these seemed like the biggest “core” ones
my immediate priority is coming up with a way of specifying “profiles”—meaningful subsets of the vocabulary useful for particular tasks
@gaditb i was originally going to say PNG but then i thought some might have this take
@coriander just because girls are more horny for time periods with better plumbing and want to fuck vampires instead of lady magicians i mean
@coriander i mean i don’t want to say the ONLY difference between fantasy and romance is gender but it’s the only difference between SOME fantasy and SOME romance
