i guess if they’re ordering me a computer that means they actually want me for this job

@packetcat big fan of this new CHVRCHES album; it took me a few listens to get into but lately it’s been on repeat

the extra songs in the Director’s Cut version are good as well

@monorail yeah as i understand it, it’s “hey [other Rust teams], the Core Team isn’t accountable the way all of you are! you should probably talk about changing that but we’d rather not comment on past abuses.”

it’s still something to be settled internally; it’s not something someone completely uninvolved in Rust development is going to be able to influence or control

@monorail i think it’s actually the other rust teams, not the core team, who they want action from but yeah if you are not a part of rust then you’re not a part of rust; chill

i’m music pretentious but only towards people who like mitski

(the Gregorian calendar, at time of introduction, was 10 days off from the Julian. the English-speaking world was so slow to it that it became 11. certain things, like tax days, kept their “old” dates by advancing them forward 11 days, so that people wouldn’t be swindled.

the 11 day offset was fixed in stone at this time. it does not accommodate further divergence between the calendar systems.)

for example, much of the English-speaking world celebrates some derivative of Armistice Day on 11 November, and a minority celebrates Martinmas

but you COULD be celebrating Old Halloween

Show thread

did you know you can celebrate any holiday a second time 11 days later if you just prefix the holiday name with “Old”

i’d be more surprised to find a Core Team which *is* accountable, in this realm of software development

« More broadly, the liberal accommodationist strategy of a Code of Conduct masks and upholds a centralization of power around the software project and those who control it (who have complete and total jurisdiction over the enforcement of said Code), placing oppressed parties in a position of service and subservience rather than working to ensure their own empowerment and self‐determination. »
