This is a Roman festival we know very little about, except that it was celebrated on two dates (the other was 15 January), observed primarily by women (Carmenta was a goddess of childbirth and prophecy), and invoked Postvorta and Antevorta, aspects of Carmenta pertaining to looking back (into the past) and forward (into the future). As a date near the new year, it’s a good opportunity for reflection and resolution; I really couldn’t care less otherwise regarding the original Roman meaning.
