@ashfurrow@masto.ashfurrow.com i don't see why you couldn't just federate a single "delete this user" event in AP, but the issue is that even if mastodon implemented support for that, it still wouldn't work for older servers

this seems like a case where needing to do the old bad thing for outdated servers anyway is blocking momentum on finding a better solution, which partially is a result of the fact that AP doesn't provide a mechanism for servers to advertise their capabilities to each other
