@aescling anyway generally if there is a widely-accepted term of art in a field it is considered inappropriate to criticize it on the basis of its broader vernacular meaning

a term of art is a word in a specific discipline (“art”) which is widely recognized as having a particular meaning which might vary from what it means generally
programming is full of these; like “functional” is a term of art in programming which means something different than “functional” might mean in other fields

I have a Ph.D in #ComputerAlgebra and am in charge of the care and feeding of a number of /heavy/ subsystems in Maple. So, sometimes I do important work, like going through the #pokemon type advantage graph and look for five type subsets that are isomorphic to the graph of Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock. There is exactly one.
