@Satsuma i differentiate between these terms and own/use both a dish rag and a dish towel, but i would never call a dish towel a dish towel, i would just call it a towel (or kitchen towel if one needed to be specific)
i would consider tea towel to be a subset of dish towel although again in practice i would never actually say that word
suppose i have a finite numeric value less than 1 and greater than or equal to 0, like 0.231
i build a loop which, in each step:
- multiplies the value by 10
- drops the integral component so that only the fractional part remains
e.g. 0.231 → 0.31 → 0.1 → 0.
the loop finishes when the resulting value is 0
clearly this algorithm will terminate for any value in decimal space
will it also necessarily always terminate for any value in floating‐point space?
@platypus (anyway this was actually an extremely good fire season out west afaict; it has been much worse in recent years past)
@platypus living in WA, yeah it was particularly bad this past week due to how the wind was blowing (east‐to‐west, which is unusual); it’s cleared up considerably now on account of clean air blowing in from the ocean again (and cooler september temperatures are helping with the fires) but that map was a lot of red and purple not long ago
anyway it’s always the sketchy weirdos who make a fuckton of posts on public that get wide reach and a lot of replies, which is not an amplification pattern i particularly appreciate, fediverse
