@witchfynder_finder anyway what i mean though is that i think the setting looks cool and i’m excited for the pokémon world to expand to different places and the game will probably be mediocre but i don't really play pokémon for the gameplay these days anyway
@witchfynder_finder there was an episode about ash's mom and i started it like “oh no an episode about ash's mom” and i ended it like “oh NO an episode about ash's MOM”
@witchfynder_finder pokémon journeys is excellent if you ever feel the need to watch something completely mindless on netflix with lots of good milf representation

@noelle i think email is also more parasocial, like, you're getting a letter addressed to you stuck in your inbox!! it feels personal!!
but it's not actually?? that personalization is a lie?? so it feels like it's taking advantage of the same sorts of tendencies leveraged by social media to trick people into getting invested
which really does not appeal to me at all
it’s not like email got better in any way!! email has only gotten worse!
i really can’t imagine why people in the 2020s think email, a notoriously lacking format with a built‐in mechanism for being spammed with the inane thoughts of any passing stranger (or bot), is the best way to syndicate content now
and not, like, the significantly more modern and sophisticated technology of Having A Blog

example: i learned XML in high school because i wanted to create a custom conlang dictionary for the macOS (then OS X) Dictionary.app, which was XML-based. this is not the most pressing issue which needs solving in the world, but it was a real problem i cared about, and working on it exposed me to all kinds of problem spaces in document processing, information representation, data entry ergonomics, as well as internationalization concerns, IETF standards (BCP 49!), and automation workflows for handling large amounts of structured metadata. that's the sort of thing which happens when you work on a real problem. you get exposed to existing solutions; in trying to comprehend those solutions, you gain an understanding of the broader concerns they are trying to address; you develop and mature and grow as a person. i don't care about conlangs anymore but i do still care deeply about internationalization.
in contrast, i can't think of a single thing i learned in a math class which meaningfully developed me as a person or a professional. i went into college wanting to be a math major,
