@david uhhhh searching isn’t enabled on glitch.social and this was a very long time ago so there’s no way i’m going to be able to find the actual post

but the brief summary was something like “i’m tired of seeing this in my timeline, i’m tired of having to deal with it, and it doesn’t bring me joy. so bye”

the social context of this was that sunshine gardens was the (mostly) personal instance of xj9, who was a fediverse user back in 2017 who was pretty involved with open source technologies and fediverse development, as well as big on the solarpunk scene, so they had connections with a lot of the early mastodon adopters/developers. but they also had a tendency towards occasionally making posts which were incendiary and at least a little racist, and federating with people who most of the rest of the mastodon fediverse weren’t happy with.

i don’t think (?) they’re on the fediverse anymore at all, and this is all old history, but i was the backup moderator for glitch.social at this time so i remember it

i should probably write a DON’T PANIC! addendum to this that if you are an admin and i suddenly start following you, it is probably not for this reason

don’t give the false impression that you are still reachable

just block the server at that point; you’ve already severed communication

i feel like it’s rather asking for trouble to apply a serverwide silence on another server’s admin without also following them

you know i was all for monkey furries becoming more of a thing but i didn’t expect that this is how it would happen
