soliciting movie recommendations as i am home alone for the next couple of days and want something to put on the telly in the background (and/or more attentively watch, we'll see)

criteria:

  • no christmas
  • mild preference for not in the past decade or perhaps even this century
  • stronger preference for not in the past like five years
  • not generally a fan of action films because i'm bad at following action scenes; willing to make exceptions for very good films or ones with especially comprehensible action scenes
  • english audio is kinda essential for the background-watching stuff but feel free to suggest films without it anyway
  • excellent or influential films and trashy drek both welcomed, mediocre stuff less appealing.

@alyssa twin’s recommending Raging Bull (but with the caveat that it’s a “feel bad movie”—it’s about how the central character is a piece of shit apparently) and Do The Right Thing, which he says is “most of the movie is charming” but also is “almost a feel-bad movie”

he also recommends Some Like It Hot, which he describes as “surprisingly based” in its depiction of gender and sexuality

@alyssa anyway fur MY recommendations: the dialogue is hard to hear, but Salt of the Earth is a pretty good movie and makes me feel things

@aescling @wallhackio thanks y'all. will take these into consideration :)

i have watched Do The Right Thing before and liked it tho i don't remember my thoughts more specifically than that.
