Everything here is worth downloading. I would probably recommend Bound and every Studio Ghibli first (The Tale of Princess Kaguya, Whisper of the Heart, Pom Poko, Kiki's Delivery Service, Only Yesterday, My Neighbor Totoro)

Has Clodsire also seen Ponyo the Fish? Her whole goal is the opposite of mine, she's a fish who wants to turn human, while I'm a fish creature who is stuck in human form...
@wallhackio @The_T If Vaporeon wants to watch more movies by Studio Ghibli, does Clodsire have any specific recommendations? Only two that I remember seeing are Ponyo the Fish and Totoro
@vaporeon_ @The_T Before I answer let me ask some questions. Do you like sad movies? Are you easily bored by movies about the mundane, everyday life?
@vaporeon_ @The_T Totoro is borderline, since it does have many fantastical elements
Whisper of the Heart is one the best films ever made but it is very slow-moving and there aren't any fantastical elements at all (aside from a few very brief visualizations of the fantasy story the main character writes) so some people don't care for it
Only Yesterday is in a similar boat
Pom Poko is an extraordinary film but it also left a cavernous hole in my heart when we finished it
Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Nausicaa are very "safe" bets. Everyone likes them, feel free to check them out if any of them interests you

@wallhackio @The_T I do appreciate their DVD collection. If I had a bigger apartment and money to buy a LaserDisc player, I would totally collect DVDs, video CDs, and LaserDiscs
@vaporeon_ @wallhackio I hated lugging my DVD collection around whenever I moved... and then higher-quality things like Blu-Ray existing, killed my desire to ever see a DVD again.

@vaporeon_ @wallhackio anyway. I've queued up every thing on Clod's list to download. Guess I'll queue up the rest of the Ghibli films as well. They'll go up on Jellyfin when they finish downloading and I get around to it. :)

@vaporeon_ @wallhackio oh, on the topic of anime films, since (I think) all of Clod's were Ghibli films. One non-Ghibli film I'd recommend (which is on my Jellyfin) is The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I think it does feel a little Ghibli-ish; it's fantastical but in a grounded way, about a girl who discovers she can travel through time and uses it to fix her problems, and the repercussions of doing so.

I'd probably recommend Chihayafuru, Ping Pong the Animation, and Gurren Lagann the most from what I've seen. Kill la Kill, Cowboy Bebop, and Space Dandy are my absolute favorites.

Kill la Kill always rubbed me the wrong way because mainstream anime fans are obsessed with it, and all the sexualization stuff, but I'll take your word for it...

@The_T @vaporeon_ I did not know that, that is disappointing. I don't remember Lain having fashy vibes or anything but it's been quite a while and I have a better radar for that stuff these days

The thing it came up most in, was a table read of a new Digimon Tamers story years later, where the plot was... pretty bad. Lemme see if I can find it again...

@vaporeon_ nah, the quality is pretty reasonable. It's mostly that I have 136 episodes.

Does Totoro count as "mundane, everyday life"? Ultimately it's about those kids and their problems, but there is Totoro (and cat bus!), who are not mundane, and I think I liked Totoro. But it was a while ago that I watched it.
