Everything here is worth downloading. I would probably recommend Bound and every Studio Ghibli first (The Tale of Princess Kaguya, Whisper of the Heart, Pom Poko, Kiki's Delivery Service, Only Yesterday, My Neighbor Totoro)

@wallhackio The version of The Muppet Christmas Carol I'm getting is a custom made version based on the extended TV version:

This is the version that includes the missing "When Love Is Gone" which was available on the VHS home release of the film.

The audio was ripped and synced from the Laser Disc deleted scenes and upscaled to be edited into the Amazon web release.

This is the best version of the film and corrects the pacing issues of the original theatrical release which Disney insists on continuing to release.

This is NOT the Director's Cut/Extended Cut/Unrated version because no version other than the Theatrical version currently exists. Some streaming services labelled it otherwise as a marketing ploy after the director expressed interest in doing a director's cut, but nothing has come to fruition as of yet.

@wallhackio Wake Up Dead Man is a Knives Out thing? I don't know anything about it, is it a series? Are they connected, should I download all of them?

@The_T there are three Knives Out movies:

1) Knives Out
2) Glass Onion
3) Wake Up Dead Man

Each is a mystery with a brand new cast. The only connective tissue is the detective Benoit Blanc who solves the mystery in each

They are all delightful and I would recommend all three to anybody

@wallhackio @The_T I suppose not really, I already feel very stressed by daily life and I would prefer not to be made extra sad by a movie... It probably is good to have seen them, though?

Does Totoro count as "mundane, everyday life"? Ultimately it's about those kids and their problems, but there is Totoro (and cat bus!), who are not mundane, and I think I liked Totoro. But it was a while ago that I watched it.

@vaporeon_ @The_T Totoro is borderline, since it does have many fantastical elements

Whisper of the Heart is one the best films ever made but it is very slow-moving and there aren't any fantastical elements at all (aside from a few very brief visualizations of the fantasy story the main character writes) so some people don't care for it

Only Yesterday is in a similar boat

Pom Poko is an extraordinary film but it also left a cavernous hole in my heart when we finished it

Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Nausicaa are very "safe" bets. Everyone likes them, feel free to check them out if any of them interests you

@wallhackio @The_T I do appreciate their DVD collection. If I had a bigger apartment and money to buy a LaserDisc player, I would totally collect DVDs, video CDs, and LaserDiscs

@vaporeon_ @wallhackio I hated lugging my DVD collection around whenever I moved... and then higher-quality things like Blu-Ray existing, killed my desire to ever see a DVD again.

@vaporeon_ @wallhackio oh, on the topic of anime films, since (I think) all of Clod's were Ghibli films. One non-Ghibli film I'd recommend (which is on my Jellyfin) is The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I think it does feel a little Ghibli-ish; it's fantastical but in a grounded way, about a girl who discovers she can travel through time and uses it to fix her problems, and the repercussions of doing so.

Kill la Kill always rubbed me the wrong way because mainstream anime fans are obsessed with it, and all the sexualization stuff, but I'll take your word for it...
