I never understand trans art, like all the trans allegories go over my head. And when I ask my friends to explain them it always goes like
"Hey I know The Matrix is a trans story, like I've heard that and I believe it, but... why? Like I know estrogen came in red pills at the time but that's an easter egg at best, what makes it a trans story?"
"It's a story about the world being wrong around you in ways that, once you notice them, you can never really stop seeing. Once you understand it you feel this overwhelming urge to take control of your life, to experience something true in defiance of those who did this to you"
And like. None of it ever scans to me at all. The world didn't open up to me when I came out, I didn't start discovering the truth of the society that scorned me or whatever. I started saying I was a girl and that makes me happy and that's basically the only thing I have going on re: transgender
@amy I needed it to be explained to me that celeste was gay
@wallhackio Celeste was only gay because the fans were gay until Farewell when Madeline being gay became canon
@amy im not sure how seriously i should respond to this comment or whether its intentionally facetious
@wallhackio There's no other girls in the story for it to be gay about
@wallhackio I guess there's Granny but come on
@amy i genuinely cannot tell if you're joking lmao
@wallhackio No I'm genuinely baffled
Is it Badeline??
@amy I mean, literally speaking, the main character is Madeleine so there is objectively a girl in the story, hence my confusion
@wallhackio Yes but one girl in a vacuum can't do gay things! She's one girl!!
@wallhackio How are you going to tell a gay story about one girl??
@amy @wallhackio this is false and you are evidence
- We're two girls
- We don't do gay things together she's like my sister!!
@The_T @wallhackio But this is why I asked for clarification about Badeline
She is literally plural in the story
@wallhackio @The_T You understand that this is like, fundamentally unconvincing
@amy @wallhackio you are one girl, and you will be in a vacuum once I buy one
and ur gay
@amy do we count ace people as being gay
@amy my current understand of what you're saying is that there aren't other girls in the story for maddy to be gay with?
@wallhackio The primary function being gay has on one's life is that if they are a girl it changes how they interact with girls, yes
@amy but if Madeleine is trans (which she is) then she is gay even if she dates/fucks/romances men
@wallhackio Okay but she doesn't
@amy i was under the impression that if you are trans, then you are gay, even if you don't romance or fuck
but it is clear to me now that, for you, gay media is media that features characters being gay, and Madeleine is only metaphorically gay****
**** chapter 9 hides easter eggs in the background of art that i forgot the specifics of that suggests she is gay of some sort. and she wears rainbow socks in the actual irl instagram account the dev team made for Theo. but this is super subtexty/easter-eggy/not-on-the-surface, which is what you care about i think
@wallhackio No, what I'm saying is that Madeline being a gay woman doesn't make Celeste a queer narrative. It can be metaphorical but it has to be there
It's also extremely funny to bring up Farewell when my original point about this said "until Farewell"
@wallhackio Tbh I was being a little facetious in that original post anyway because like, again, Madeline being queer doesn't make it a queer story, it makes it a story with a queer person in it
@wallhackio @amy that's... not how being trans works
@The_T @wallhackio Sorry Ti he's right
@amy @wallhackio sorry but if a trans woman fucks men and she states she is straight, there is nothing gay about it
@amy @wallhackio but anyway gender and sexuality are descriptive not prescriptive
@The_T @wallhackio None of this is at all even remotely convincing to me about the existence of a fundamentally queer narrative in Celeste
@wallhackio @amy you certainly make terminological choices sometimes
@wallhackio There are no girls in the story!!
