they might be giants song theme from flood accurately depicts the experience of listening to they might be giants album flood

in search of hardcore bands with overly political music that didn’t turn weirdly conservative or fascist and also didn’t decide to switch to playing metal. please recommend

oh no because i find python kinda viscerally aesthetically displeasing (woops initially wrote this as literally the opposite)

oh no i kinda really dig the way this python web api framework works

actual spoiler bit of popular movie reaction

the mona lisa burning scene was really tedious tho. like the event itself and the aftermath scene are good payoffs for all the prior setup, but dragging out Helen getting there like that was just annoying. also why didn’t we hear the shield activating for like five minutes beforehand anyway. apparently it was still functioning but like, just not making any noise despite being significantly loud earlier in the film?

glass onion was quite good. it had certain weak points but the second segment of the film was very well done.

food

i may have found all the (hopefully only two) pieces.

oh no a piece of uncooked pasta fell on the floor and shattered but the floors are wood and the lighting is kinda orange anyway

why do all the popular javascript frontend approaches to managing state seem so hostile to abstraction

unrelatedly why does leslie fish have such a thing for kipling anyway

imo js libraries should document unambiguously whether the methods they describe return values as supporting actually have to be invoked as methods on the return value or can be used as functions

surprisingly not even a we-don't-pay-attention-to-firefox-support bug. it happens on chrome too.

i think if your front-end JS framework's documentation website don't manage to respond to navigation by putting me at the top of the new page instead of whatever scroll-position i was at in the previous page, that is maybe an indication i should ignore your front-end JS framework.

kingdom hearts should have had musical numbers (simple and clean, love it as i do, doesn't count)

wait giancarlo esposito was in do the right thing??? huh. i guess he was a good deal younger at that time

reposted as public since lbr i assume of peeps who follow me only @Lady has the ability to meaningfully filter on "does this film fit lyssa's tastes?" and i'm not counting on anybody including her trying to do so for this rec request

soliciting movie recommendations as i am home alone for the next couple of days and want something to put on the telly in the background (and/or more attentively watch, we'll see)

criteria:

  • no christmas
  • mild preference for not in the past decade or perhaps even this century
  • stronger preference for not in the past like five years
  • not generally a fan of action films because i'm bad at following action scenes; willing to make exceptions for very good films or ones with especially comprehensible action scenes
  • english audio is kinda essential for the background-watching stuff but feel free to suggest films without it anyway
  • excellent or influential films and trashy drek both welcomed, mediocre stuff less appealing.

continuing yesterday's theme of cute little ways to put things out there on the web, i now suggest:

listography is a site that lets you make and share lists about yourself.

one of the people behind it, Lisa Nola, said about it: «Auto-biographical list-making is a pathway to rediscover memories, preserve stories, kickstart creative projects, visualize dreams, and keep a record of books, films, music, and all the other experiences that have transformed you.»

It's kind of an atypical approach to like, self-recording, self-processing, self-expression, whatever. But I think it's pretty charming. Maybe give it a try!

i would make a myself but i'm bad at feeling like i have anything to say
