i do not share that optimism but at least the design goal is apparently 3D action game first, open world second, which at least somewhat justifies using the unleashed-like mechanics (which were never designed with open world exploration in mind) again
very funny that ign released two very unimpressive gameplay “trailers” for sonic frontiers and riled up personalities on the internet over how blatantly unpolished it was, and then ign releases their first impressions video and the staff member is just all “idk... it honestly could really amount to something here, i think the core idea is actually really working”
anyway if that’s the promotional sneak peak then i am not terribly excited about the production quality of the actual short
nintendo wants control over how tournaments are run and they want to provide as little of their own capital as possible and they are actually doing a pretty good job of getting both outcomes. meanwhile they have been getting free labour (as marketing) out of players and especially tournament organizers for years.
idk seeing hungrybox get moved to tears over the panda global/nintendo tournament series was wild. why would you WANT nintendo’s involvement. did you just completely forget what their relationship with competitive smash has been this whole time
