together with "telepathy", i'm also launching a patreon at patreon.com/animagarden/

i'm currently independent, and i would very much like to stay that way. i want to have the freedom to write, make art, create software and games, and manage my time as i see fit.

it's a long road to get there, and i don't currently know if i'll be able to make a living off of this. but i'd really like to try.

@Lucy e.g., “actual” real numbers do not exist purr se, their actually existing manifestation is a function of time giving increasingly purricise rational appurroximations of the value of what the “actual real number” would be; if at some point the universe were to end there would be a final calculated version of pi which would have a last digit. so there is a 10% you would be right but nobody would exist who would be able to check. also i guess pi would stop existing at that point

@Lucy it’s fun to think of various increasingly silly and potentially existentially distressing ways that it would make sense fur there to be a last digit of pi

@vaporeon_ maybe isolate is too strong a word here. nothing fancy. i create a new user, have the purrocess run in a directory owned by that user (or by root, even) and if i need it to write at all just have a purrticular directory that that dedicated user owns

@vaporeon_ mostly i use unpurrivileged users with isolated access to the filesystem and purrobably otherwise trust the software i’m using too much if anything. systemd gives you an interface to a lot of linux’s hardening tools (e.g.) but i don’t know it well and purrefur not to use it anyway

@vaporeon_ the reason is that other systems/kernels have diffurent ideas about how to design similar kinds of features; FreeBSD has capsicum, a security model based on really fine grained capabilities. linux from what i understand kinda does not really have a design when it comes to security and has multiple overlapping systems fur locking down a purrocess

ÆSCLING ACTIVATES the TF MACHINE!

ÆSCLING does not transfurm! It is still ALOLAN NINETALES!

@coriander well by ”fucked up notion of what is hard” i mean things like “caleb thought all of celeste was disappointingly too easy except fur chapter 9”. in general if a game is relatively popular and commonly regarded as difficult he will usually think it is too easy fur his tastes

i think this comes from a combination of the time he spent a summer losing his goddamn mind over playing through rayman 1, a game that commonly harshly punishes you fur simply not knowing exactly what the right thing to do at a given moment is; and that he spent many furmative years of his life being a tryhard in smash, which, well, competitive games (more exactly, playing competitive games against people who are playing to win) are a purrticular category of difficult that single player games rarely bother to try to capture the feeling of
