@Lady btw i figured out why the misconfiguration happens in the first place; i have the script that sets up the logger in the httpd’s repository, which i should have named run.example or something instead of just run. so pushing or pulling updates to the test environment was overriding the logger settings to use the wrong directory

this happens with the production environment too, strictly speaking, but it’s at least correct for production. it’s still wrong ofc

@Lady also, far as i can tell, i’m generally active for a much larger part of the day

apparently the software i have been complaining about does work, and the documentation was just wrong

(to be clear it is on the remotes to enforce that; so remotes that don't know about MTA-STS can still use plaintext if they must (or if a MITM strips out the remote’s STARTTLS command))
