@soph_sol @Forestofglory yeah they are definitely in the doorstopper lineage of fantasy 😂 there are several short stories / novellas set in the same universe, which might help give you a better taste of whether they’re worth the commitment? It’s been a bit since I read them but I think eg. Portrait of a Wide Seas Islander would be standalone enough to read as a taster

@soph_sol @Forestofglory one of the things Victoria Goddard’s Astandalas series has going for it is that it *does* at least put ‘deconstructing the monarchy’ at the center of its power fantasy, even if it is still a little too ‘two people can just completely reshape the world and thats a good thing with no troubling implications’ for my tastes

re: covid poll, family members

@pagrus @pamela she’s not bothered by how they look— soft collagen runs in the family so anything with earloops are out for all of us—auras have worked well for me and my dad but they’re too large for her and (to a slightly lesser extent) my older sibling.

re: covid poll, family members

@pamela @pagrus yeah I feel like you should be able to like, go to your gp or local health clinic or whatever and fit test a bunch of masks and insurance (or really the govt) should just cover that as a Normal Part Of Preventative Healthcare

re: covid poll, family members

@pagrus @pamela yeah my mother has really struggled to find a (k)n95 that fits her, and its definitely impacted her willingness to wear masks, unfortunately. And then due to knowing how much fit issues can impair effectiveness, its definitely harder to argue about as well :/

@rigormorphis ooooh exciting! do you know when preorders are going to end?

@pamela tbf i did decline the tdap at the time bc it was a bad day to be all achey and post vaccinated but yeah i wish my immunologist did vaccinations!! they have plenty of people trained in injections bc they do allergy shots in the very same office but for some reason they just don’t stock/offer vaccines as standard?? *grouches*

and thank you!! the pharmacy is close and i was able to get a late afternoon appointment so it should go okay i think

@pamela it’s a trap, clearly!

And *both* of my last two doctors appointments came with a vaccine recommendation (pneumovax from asthma, and i’m up for my 10 year tdap booster according to gp) so i’m going to try to do that at the end of this week too *hides under a blanket*

@pamela :blobmeow_sleeping:

Drs appointment was productive but man, doing things

@rowyn or perhaps Cassie just likes two people and always will!

@soph_sol gotta love an excuse to go reread your bookmarks 😆

@lirazel there are some studies backing you up on this!

Medical, mini-psa?

@ysabet ugh yeah thats frustrating! I also developed mine over time, though mostly during my teens when I was also busy developing symptoms for a whole host of other medical issues

Medical, mini-psa?

@ysabet yeah i’m in a similar boat where i’ve just assumed it was a simple nickel allergy (which is pretty common) and mostly not had issues with anything but costume jewelry

but i have a piece of white gold that i *might* have problems mild with??? so i asked and it turns out to be extremely answerable
