@ljwrites unfortunately that one was already taken by jackhammers

@Canageek@cybre.space they're increasingly a thing! They are genuinely an upgrade if you mostly drink things that don't want boiling water too

Random listacle with examples: alphachooser.com/electric_kett
The Bonavita gooseneck mentioned there has a commercial cousin that is used in every single fancy coffeeshop doing pour-overs. But pretty much every mid range to high end appliance maker in the US sells a variable temp kettle these days (cheaper kettles are still just on/off of course)

@Canageek@cybre.space I'm fairly certain my parents have had one for like thirty years? But yeah historically they certainly were less common here than in tea drinking countries

They've gotten a LOT nicer lately (last five years maybe) with variable temp options & stuff. Not sure if we're significantly lagging behind on the kettle-tech front of if those are new-ish everywhere?

@Canageek@cybre.space yeah i mean, it's very hard to generalize about some 3.3 hundred million people 😆

@Canageek@cybre.space college students will of course, frequently not own like 90% of the items in a standard kitchen so may very well just make everything, including their morning coffee, in their single saucepan but I wouldn't call that the cultural norm

@Canageek@cybre.space i make hot chocolate in a saucepan but i make it with milk. Lot of people heat the milk in a microwave if they're using hot chocolate mix. Hot chocolate made out of boiled water is not a common thing

Most people in the US use a coffee maker to make coffee & don't drink tea so have any kind of kettle. But both electric kettles and stovetop kettles are fairly easy to buy if you have a reason to be using one regularly

@Lady yeah its a separate but also extant genre of characters

@Lady yeah i feel like the key difference between Frankenstein’s monster and an automaton is that he has like, feelings and a high capacity for independent action

@Lady it doesnt bring anything to life it just makes it even more inert

@Lady i feel like theres a difference between necromancy and lego

@hafnia@weirder.earth @pagrus i mean, technically that’s not laughing

gross, disgusting, lewd, bodily fluids, just don't open

@alpine_thistle does the app count bj’s as exercise as well? I feel like you’d have to compensate for all the energy expended ah, harvesting, said semen
