@wallhackio do you have potatos, leeks, and oil
@Lady i have oil
@wallhackio @Lady do you have other vegetables that are not potatoes or leeks
@Lady @wallhackio do you have anything in the allium family (onion, garlic, etc)
@Lady @wallhackio tragic that makes soup making a lot more difficult
do u keep canned tomato
@Lady @wallhackio carrots, canned tomato, oil or butter, and a generous quantity of garlic will make a passable tomato soup
i recommend adding at least two of the following: thyme, bay leaves, oregano, basil, paprika, corriander
@Lady @wallhackio do all of them then
@Lady @wallhackio carrots + onions + celery + a fat is mirepoix which is the base of many delicious soups
if you want to make the kind of smooth creamy tomato soup u dip a grilled cheese in put it in a blender and then make a grilled cheese, otherwise consider also a can of white beans and some chopped greens (kale or collards or chard) and maybe also some pasta
@wallhackio @Lady this is a cookbook from the time period when everyone criminally underestimated how long it takes onions to cook for some terrible reason, wait at least 5 minutes after adding yr onion before you add the other veggies and then wait probably another 10
you can use canned tomato instead of paste (it will taste better if u do) it just might take a bit longer to cook depending on what kind
@wallhackio @Lady i think the author was a queer vegan punk actually but i’ve lost track of them
@Lady @wallhackio yeah white vegan punks being racist is unfortunately fairly common
@Lady @wallhackio i would not recommend this cookbook to anyone in 2025 but the options in 2010 for vegan recipes were a lot more dire
@wallhackio @Lady wild
@wallhackio @Lady alternatively, make tortilla soup:
