Academia (good news tho)

One of my classes was a half semester course so our last meeting was tonight, and the prof very casually pulled me back when everyone was leaving to check what my plans were after school and oh, was i aware of these fellowships his program runs that i could apply for? He’d be happy to write me a reference if I was interested in applying

Except then I needed to double check some info he gave me, which meant emailing him and it turns out someone saying very nice things about you doesn’t actually make emailing them about research opportunities any easier!!!! Going to go lie on my floor and recover instead of doing any homework now. You know, as a very professional academic who’s definitely qualified for this fellowship program would

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma i mean that’s what i’d do

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady its the reasonable course of action

Tbh I actually kinda dislike lying on the floor these days bc this apartment is wall to wall carpeted

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma you don’t like lying on carpet?

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady i mean i grew up in all hardwood so thats where the emotional resonance is

But mostly i mean like, its cheap mediocre landlord carpet.

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma get a blanket

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady at that point i may as well just go hide in bed which already has plenty of blankets

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma lying in bed just makes me tired which is a problem if i’m trying to *recoup* energy

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady naps tho

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma SOMETIMES

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady naaaaaaps

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady no but actually i started this thread at like 10 pm or whatever so it’s less recouping energy and more ‘waiting for bedtime bc i am Out Of Spoons’

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma see i still usually do that lying on the floor with a blanket

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma but i have it easy because i just have a blanket with me most of the time

Follow

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady convenient

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma i’m gonna try and make walking around with quilts draped over your shoulders a Thing

it’s an idea whose time has come

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma by which i mean it is comfortable, fashionable, allows easy thermoregulation, and if you want to take a nap you already have a blanket

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady kibi reïnventing capes

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma they’re worn differently! capes are secured by a clasp at the front of the neck whereas quilts are secured by gravity on account of there being more fabric in front of your body than behind

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady until you need to leave the house in which case you want a bit of extra security while you’re running around

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma if you’re literally running around, you fold the quilt in half or thirds and drape it over your shoulders like a scarf

it’s less warming that way but if you’re running then the freedom of motion is more important

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady wait what sized quilt is this

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma my favourite quilt is 3.5′ × 5′ but i have a blanket which is twin‐sized and that works alright (i am tall)

definitely no bigger than that

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady i have one twin sized blanket but i put it on roommates couch before i discovered i was allergic to roommates couch (i dont really use couches so it took me a while to discover this fact) and i don’t trust the washing machines here

Mostly tho everything is full sized which is v cozy but not very maneuverable

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma yeah i feel like with a full sized anything it would need to be thin and you’d just fold it in half lengthwise

like with a wool blanket you could probably manage

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady mhm

I do have some very large scarves though. I am committed to the scarf aesthetic

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma i mean what i’m describing is basically just a blanket scarf only made out of actual blanket

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady and no pins allowed

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma feel like that would get in the way of “easy thermoregulation”; the whole point is that you can easily adjust how open it hangs

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady but if it keeps moving you have to constantly adjust it

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Satsuma i have not noticed this problem in my experiences, or it is just so automatic that i do it without thinking

re: Academia (good news tho)

@Lady hmmm
