@Lady My understanding is that the availability of new emoji is restricted to the updated OSes in no small part to encourage updates. I'm not sure if that applies to the rest of Unicode, but given that they're tied together pretty firmly now, probably?
@aschmitz that’s definitely true on phones, but it seems to be the case on desktop OS’s as well, especially as it seems APFS changes which filenames it considers valid depending on Unicode version, and i don’t see them upgrading APFS in a minor OS release
i don’t actually care about the emoji so much (they would be nice to have, don’t get me wrong), but there are some non‐emoji characters in Unicode 16 i’ve been waiting for for a while and would really like to have
