U·S politics

« Mr. Biden has centered his re-election campaign around the idea of “Bidenomics,” his record of infrastructure, high tech and clean energy spending aimed at creating good industrial jobs and shrinking income inequality. Despite those broad policies, Mr. Potrykus [68, a longtime electrician in the Ford plant], eyeing his own expenses, said he didn’t see either Democrats or Republicans as fighting for the working class.

“I don’t think either party is really interested in that,” he said. “It’s a war on us now. You’ve got the super rich and then you’ve got the poor.” »

re: U·S politics

@Lady interesting move to try to run on his economic pawlicies because while it is true that the actual investments made in the economy during the recession made it grow out of it much faster than the 2008 one did, i don’t think the public at large really understands this, nor would they care,

re: U·S politics

@aescling he’s running on the economy because it’s going to be a major issue in battleground states

re: U·S politics

@Lady @aescling also, calling it Bidenomics is an attempt to package a bunch of seemingly-disparate and dry policies as a single more comprehensible policy position that can then be more easily sold to the general public

re: U·S politics

@aescling @Lady i’m not terribly confident whether the repackaging is actually in any way helpful, i think often in issues of economy people care less about words and policy and more about the lived reality of the last 3 yrs

re: U·S politics

@Satsuma @aescling well in this case tho they’re also comparing it with a lived reality under Trump which many aren’t fond of either

re: U·S politics

@Satsuma @aescling one Jeep worker was very explicit like “if Trump was so great then why didn’t anything he did last”

re: U·S politics

@Lady @Satsuma love that class consiousness is becoming real again though

re: U·S politics

@Lady @aescling “they’re both bad” seems to result in low democratic turnout tho

re: U·S politics

@Satsuma @Lady the thing is, that’s an already existing term conservatives uuse as a pejorative to talk about the economy under biden, so like
