i don't want to know why Effective Altruism is suddenly a buzzword lately but i am surprised; i thought we defeated that one a decade ago when Peter Singer first started saying the words

i'm pretty sure this one must've come from Twitter because no masto would give it a second thought

(this is a lie i once dated someone who had an effective altruistic mindset [she was an abusive asshole (this is why effective altruism doesn't work)])

all of the problems the world faces are social problems and their solutions come not in the form of a few individuals doing large amounts of good but in communities of people doing small amounts of good in an organized manner

@Lady

individuals making motion to do large amounts of good are often covering for massive amounts of bad

Follow

@cleverclue even when it isn't, what happens when that person dies, steps down from their post, or has a change of heart? it's unconscionable to make a community dependent on a support structure with such awful failure modes

@Lady

i'm developing a children's museum so this question is central

if it's just my hobby it should fail

but if others hear a call to service and bring their own expressions of love the community will find a home for the museum

the goal is to hand off the responsiblity to joyful hands
