imagining what AO3 would look like on an actual library technology stack

imagine if the interface just looked like that of [insert your local library here]

@Lady my local library’s interface is p janky for browsing actually imo

@Lady generally if i dont know what i’m looking for i’ll just wander the stacks & rely on serendipity (this works better for non-fiction)

@Satsuma out of curiosity is this your public or school library

@Lady public, uni uses worldcat which has decent subject search for most purposes

Follow

@Satsuma oof people actually use worldcat as their primary catalog access??

@Satsuma it makes sense but i feel bad for your librarians and the lack of funding i feel like this implies

@Lady i’m really not sure what their funding situation is tbh, there are indications pointing in both directions so I suspect it’s uneven

@Satsuma i feel like i'm probably in a relatively privileged position as well in regards to being a part of a growing if small library development department actively pretty involved in things like Samvera

but like i think about my undergrad university's library too and i'm sure they didn't make it themselves but it was pretty good and functional

kinda wanna see if i can find technical details on that now, actually

@Satsuma from linkun.info/about it looks like it is Islandora and Alma (we also use Alma for our catalog i believe)
