@aescling @wallhackio who cooks hot chocolate
re: food
@aescling @wallhackio I will grant that it's not dissimilar to cooking something in a water bath, so maybe? The Wikipedia says "Baking is a method of preparing food that uses dry heat", although that would seem to imply that any microwaving of things that are not themselves [surrounded by] liquids is baking, and I don't know how I feel about that in all cases.
re: food
@wallhackio @aschmitz @aescling hot chocolate is literally just making soup?
re: food
@Satsuma @wallhackio @aescling Shush. 😛
re: food
@Satsuma @wallhackio @aescling I refuse to believe this. But also what's the verb for coffee then? Still you'd argue "cook"?
re: food
@aescling @wallhackio @aschmitz i mean probably these are both secret third things but if i have to choose between cooking and baking they are definitely not baking
re: food
@Satsuma @aescling @wallhackio Yeah I think I'm on team "secret third thing" (quelle surprise). I bet with the right accent, you'd get fewer looks at "I'm gonna bake some hot chocolate" than "I'm gonna cook some hot chocolate", but this is more of a linguistic quirk than an indication that it's the right word.
re: food
@aschmitz @aescling @wallhackio the four things: baking, cooking, drink making, and food preservation
re: food
@Satsuma @aescling @wallhackio And the well-known food preservation method: turning it into candy.
re: food
@wallhackio @aschmitz @aescling yes that is in food preservation along with canning, pickling, and fermentation
