@coriander i like that 3D is at least nudging farther and farther away from attempting photorealism and is outright cartoony even
@coriander @aescling the mitchells vs the machines was innovative 3D animation
granted most of the innovation was in 2D but shhhhhh
@coriander @aescling first movie in a long time where i was just staring at the screen going “they can just DO that?!?!”
@coriander @aescling yeah people complained because it was only "revealed" in like the credits but anybody with eyes knew within the first thirty seconds so
@Lady @aescling Yeah it was incredibly obvious and also I honestly enjoyed that her being gay wasn't really, like, A Thing
Sometimes you like when a movie is really obvious about having a gay character and sometimes you like when a movie lets a character be quietly gay on their own because they have other things to do
@coriander @aescling like sure it's a trashy memey kids movie but it is also one of very very few pieces of contemporary cinema which actively uses cinematography as a form of characterization for its protagonist
@coriander sadly, many AAA video games are not taking this route
@aescling I remember when the first Ratchet and Clank game on the PS3 came out, the big back of the box quote was that it felt like playing a Pixar movie
Bring everything about that back
@aescling That is true, CG animation is starting to get pretty stylized, which is Good
