my stardew math wonkery has devolved into haleyposting. as it should

@lapis she has videos on every marriage candidate, say goodbye to 30 hours of your life

i want to adopt a cat and kiss it on its little forehead while it protests

@lapis have you ever seen Fiona Sangster's stardew valley character deep dives? they're quite enjoyable and made me like most of the characters a lot more

Personally I think Haley at the beginning of the game hadn't learned what empathy is yet. She genuinely doesn't understand the world outside of herself. Her character arc is her interest in the player causing to learn to start thinking about how other people work and that differing perspectives are valid.

I don't think she realizes her comments at the beginning of the game are kind of cruel.

Also my experience with Haley was unusual. I didn't have the usual dialogue you are supposed to have where she insults you when you first meet her. My time ever talking to her was when she takes pictures in Cindersap Forest and the game says "she does not seem to notice you are there." And I was like "oh cool, we stan a queen who is autistic about her hobbies"

That being said, if you don't like Haley because she is an ass when you first meet her that is fine. Ignorance is not a defense for cruelty.

@cam @lapis if demetrius didn't have that two-heart event he would be one of my favorite NPCs in the game

@lapis I'd be pretty surprised if I end up liking sandy more than haley, after marrying haley I am very Normal about haley

@lapis to get perfection you need to buy four items from the wizard which cost, in total, 12,500,000 gold. so you need some kind of late-game money source

ancient fruit isn't the only viable late game money source, i admit. its just the most popular one

@lapis I remember coriander and tawaret were having a conversation the other day talking about "who on earth was hoping to marry sandy" and i was like, me! i was! :clodsire_angy:

@lapis incorrect. i like sandy a lot and am going to marry her once 1.7 drops so she is innocent and perfect. i am not biased.

@lapis I played the first one it was pretty good. i liked ghost trick 1000000x times more

Long post about VIDEO GAMES and International IP Law AKA: Why Sherlock Holmes became Herlock Sholmes

@wallhackio Okay

When The Great Ace Attorney (Dai Gyakutan Saiban) came Westward for real instead of a fan patch, one of the issues is that Sherlock Holmes is literally a character in it.

The IP regarding Sherlock is a bit convoluted in the west (not as bad as Peter Pan though Fuck that law) so to bring it west they had to switch some letters around to make a Pastiche of Holmes (I believe it may help that iirc Holmes is a himbo in this game)

So Sherlock Holmes becomes Herlock Sholmes. This is made funnier because IIRC Phoenix Wright makes a reference to Sherlock Holmes who, due to the name change, would not be a historical figure in his world it just makes him sound like that time I accidentally said "Lord Brian" instead of "Lord Byron"

(I should note I know nothing about JP IP rights but I get the impression for the most part they are FAR less favorable to creators to the point where you can lose your IP rights before you die at least in the case of some manga. IIRC that's why Ken Akamatsu went into JP Politics which feels... weird.
So basically Sherlock Holmes was not a problem to include in the Japanese version)

@lapis ancient fruit will always eventually outsell star fruit but it takes about 4-5 months, at minimum, for ancient fruit to outsell star fruit. given that the typical casual perfection run is anywhere between 4-7 in-game years this is a reasonable time frame for a non-speedrunner or challenge run youtuber

however, when the farms get larger ancient fruit takes considerably longer to overcome star fruit because of the time spent turning ancient fruits into seeds. A greenhouse with four iridium sprinklers and ancient fruit will only outsell a star fruit farm of the same size after almost 3 years, which starts to be an amount of time that might not be worth it

EXCEPT a star fruit farm of this size is a MASSIVE initial cost because of how expensive star fruit seeds are. A greenhouse full of star fruits and iridium sprinklers that you constantly replant, turning all into iridium-quality wine or selling unaged wine if all casks are full, will lose over 100k in profits from seed purchases alone. It takes more than 1 in-game month for such a star fruit farm to start returning profits

You tend to have 100k to burn once you get a late-game wine farm going so i don't think a star fruit farm at a large scale is practical for the casual player seeking perfection. But for speedrunners and challenge runners who can easily perfection in two years star fruit is the clear better choice

TL:DR pierre did it send him to jail
