can some mutual double check my math?
Suppose you have a deck of cards with four suits numbered 1-14, and 22 trump cards, making 78 cards in total. Suppose you are dealt 15 cards and then given 1 additional card. What is the probability the additional card is has the same number of some other suited card in your hand?
the result is inconsistent with some brute force simulations I am doing in some code which is telling me that about 35.6% of the time the 16th card is a repeated suited card
re: balatro
Anyway here is my updated tier list. I don't know how I went this long not recognizing Mime's power but I get it now, what a fantastic joker
balatro
I got completionist++ again, this time using the painted deck.
I love the painted deck but this was more difficult than the ghost deck. Getting a good econ going was much harder with only four joker slots
Even with the increased hand size enabling five-card hands I still played mostly pairs. Straights were notably easier to play, however, making Runner S-tier for this deck because I could often play two straights per round. Reserved Parking also became extremely valuable with the increased hand size.
Knife, which is normally a very good card, was very very bad on the painted deck.
I was also surprised to find that steel cards, which I normally don't value very much, were much more valuable on this deck
I am mystified by Blue Joker being my sixth-most used Joker. It's not a Joker I think highly of, either it's better than I think or perhaps I make bad choices in my Joker purchases
