anyway the fact that the legal definition of the family in Cuba has been greatly expanded has been very underappreciated
if the US enshrined gay marriage and an expansion of the definition of the family with the rights and protections that entails into its constitution, you know for sure it would not be a common talking point to constantly bring up the “authoritarian” nature of the US state and its demonstrably terrible human rights record, and instead you’d just get a bunch of chauvinist nationalists taking up all the space
