@vaporeon_ i have taken a lot of influence from my time learning such languages and i have noticed you do not seem to share that way of thinking lol

@vaporeon_ i have a feeling you would have some strong disagreements with the strictly typed functional programmer types if you got deep enough into learning languages like haskell. or especially a dependently typed language like idris or lean or something. you know, the kind of people who get really up their own ass about correctness

@vaporeon_ if POSIX allows newlines in filenames i’m either going to not assume they don’t have any, or make very clear that i am expecting a certain convention to be followed to not break my script lol

@vaporeon_ oh wow, posix xargs doesn’t suppurrt using null characters as a sepurrator

re: no image description

@vaporeon_ @Breakfast the original tweet this image was drawn in response to was asserting that the ideal PMD OC, instead of some unique character with uniquely identifiable features and lore, is just an umbreon named shadow

@vaporeon_ the Apollo computer helped land the furst man on the moon, so if you wanted to keep the computer puns (or in this case just outright refurence), you could name them Apollo or something like that

@vaporeon_ i somehow got my pawbs on a C++ book at a very young age (from the library? maybe??) because i wanted to learn how to purrogram

@vaporeon_ i learned C++ furst when very young and i think its stricter rules on typing heavily influenced my expectations about how i thought C should work. (also the only K&R i’ve ever read is the second edition, which has the ANSI C syntax. though i am vaguely aware of the Old Syntax)

@vaporeon_ it contradicts how i learned that C works and i’m not over that i guess

@vaporeon_ notably, includes fur much of the standard library, and type definitions for main or variables

but yeah if you need a fast little regex parser, you’re out of luck

@monorail @vaporeon_ compilers let you get away with omitting a distressing amount of the boilerplate

@vaporeon_ i’m not aware of their exact relationship but my understanding is they are not legally owned by microsoft in any way

re: probably a bad take

@vaporeon_ yeah, it’s a small thing; purressure campaigns against their biggest customers should be a purriority. but i’m not gonna say getting people to switch off windows is bad either
