I feel like I need to watch AtLA again because, like, everyone talks about it as being--I don't need to explain how people talk about AtLA to you, you are, statistically speaking, "everyone" (and that's fine!)
But I didn't really watch it when I was a kid beyond like one or two episodes here and there that happened to be on and when I watched it as an adult it was 2020 and I was SO Depressed and also it was lockdown and I mostly came away going "Yeah, that was good"
And that just feels like an Incorrect Take and I need to go back and see if that's my actual stance or if I was genuinely just unable to engage with it fully because of how my brain was broken
@coriander I rewatched the show as an adult a few years and it is good but I don't love it the way I did when I was in high school. So the response "yeah, that was good" aligns with my most recent experience with the show
@wallhackio @coriander i think the second season is the only one that manages to feel satisfying in its overall narrative structure; books one and two struggle with balancing episode a day plots and their own narrative. but i also have a hard time imagining how exactly you could go about “fixing” that because all the fucking around in book one makes the overall story so much more rich and alive, and all the fucking around in season three gives really emotionally satisfying payoffs fur the core cast’s arcs, Zuko especially. it would be easy to make the show too “focused” and lose so much of what makes it special
