funnily enough, going by the definition of commewnism (as opposed to socialism) provided by The Manifesto, the iww is a commewnist movement

marx & engels at one point identified commewnism as a movement of the working class, where the working class is the leading actor of the revolution, as opposed to what they called socialism, which was a movement of the supposedly Enlightened trying to convince the powerful to be nice

anyway this is what we mean by “semantic shift” as, given what commewnism means today for leftists, calling the wobs commies would be ludicrous
