I *also* need to email the professor of that film class, because for Reasons it doesn't start until after the add-drop period is over
But I've already sent like four emails today and gotten stabbed twice so like wehhhhhhh
(the problem is I'd have to get dept approval to sign up because they only offer ceramics for art majors)
(and the only thing i hate more than cold-emailing people is doing it when there's a solid 50% chance that I'll walk into class on the first day, go 'oh this is way to intense for someone doing their capstone this semester' and have to drop the class)
Solacefruit was way easier than i was expecting but all the sources i can find for preserved surface blooms are like....you get four
trying to figure out what's the actually reasonable way of acquiring preserved surface blossoms

I don't know what the asterisks are going to be (besides stable address, obviously) or whether this is going to be more than a one-time "we did it, now shut up" blip in a long-term problem, but apparently the US government is planning to send out four rapid tests per household next week https://www.covidtests.gov/
this is vaguely justified by canon btw: https://trickytricky1.tumblr.com/post/639865348950261760/gffa-light-of-the-jedi-by-charles-soule
I actually believe that people want agency over their own information, and software that can act on their behalf when they're not around, that they don't need to micromanage like it's a stubborn toddler they're trying to coax into cleaning their room. We've just made the cost and cognitive overhead of running your own server the price of having that.
SUPER delighted to announce that we're hiring an Open Science Librarian at New York University Libraries

Preference given to applications before March 15th; must be able to work in the US. I'm chairing the search & may be able to answer some of your questions about it!
"Jaywalking" as a crime was invented by car companies in the 20s, to shift blame to people on foot for being hit by cars. "Littering" was invented in the 50s by paper cup and tin can manufacturers to shift blame to people who drop trash. The phrase "personal carbon footprint" came from a BP marketing campaign intended to shift blame for climate change away from petrochemical companies to individuals.
When they call themselves "the party of personal responsibility"?
This is what that means.
Some #CircusInPlace regulars have encouraged us to record a podcast.
I argued that we would have to lock ourselves in a closet in order to get a clean recording. It was quickly pointed out that locking two clowns in a closet and forcing them to answer questions would be a terrific premise for such a project.
And so, I need your help!
What questions would you like to hear answered by two classically-trained theater and circus clowns kept under lock and key until they provide a response?
this is my long writing meta quotes thread now
« You can’t really go wrong if you’re going feelings-first. That’s a very fic thing, and obviously coming from fanfic, I’m a very feelings-driven writer, so feelings and character are the things that are gonna get you through a story, and if you’ve got the feelings and the character right, nobody’s really going to mind that much if they’ve seen a plot similar to this before, there’s no original plots really under the sun…but if you get the feelings and the characters right, people are gonna come along for the ride.»
