"Jaywalking" as a crime was invented by car companies in the 20s, to shift blame to people on foot for being hit by cars. "Littering" was invented in the 50s by paper cup and tin can manufacturers to shift blame to people who drop trash. The phrase "personal carbon footprint" came from a BP marketing campaign intended to shift blame for climate change away from petrochemical companies to individuals.

When they call themselves "the party of personal responsibility"?

This is what that means.

@Anke buses are great! I’m also a big fan of trains for similar reasons

@fogsrollingin i feel like the cows are too far out of the barn at this point tho you know? Like I’m definitely not saying ‘we should make all spaces kid friendly’ but we do need to learn to coexist with the fact that there are lots of kids in fandom & their has been since like, the hp era at this point

@fogsrollingin yeah I’M in favor of allowing kids in fandom spaces bc 1) they’ll join whether you want them to or not (I certainly did) and ‘i cant report this person harassing me or i’ll get banned for being a kid’ is a terrible dynamic

2) seeing people have normal and healthy conversations about sexuality was SO helpful for me as a tiny baby queer and I want that for the next generation

That said, sometimes I read peoples bios and Im just like yeah ok please go be a child elsewhere

@Cyborgneticz okay a lot of this i was just like ‘lol old house mood’ but WHAT is going on with that window

That’s not a spot where it makes sense to brick up a window wth???

menstruation

@stelepami that sounds very unpleasant! I hope they figure out a fix

@neko which part of the blog do you want to federate? Eg. do you just want people to be able to follow you from the fediverse, do you want replies to show up on your blog as a comments section, etc

Some #CircusInPlace regulars have encouraged us to record a podcast.

I argued that we would have to lock ourselves in a closet in order to get a clean recording. It was quickly pointed out that locking two clowns in a closet and forcing them to answer questions would be a terrific premise for such a project.

And so, I need your help!

What questions would you like to hear answered by two classically-trained theater and circus clowns kept under lock and key until they provide a response?

this is my long writing meta quotes thread now

« You can’t really go wrong if you’re going feelings-first. That’s a very fic thing, and obviously coming from fanfic, I’m a very feelings-driven writer, so feelings and character are the things that are gonna get you through a story, and if you’ve got the feelings and the character right, nobody’s really going to mind that much if they’ve seen a plot similar to this before, there’s no original plots really under the sun…but if you get the feelings and the characters right, people are gonna come along for the ride.»

@ljwrites i keep a folded up grocery bag tucked into an interior pocket of my backpack (which i carry in lieu of a purse) and being able to casually triple my storage capacity is indeed magic

My favorite kings cake has a vague ingredients list, three solid pages of musing about the carnival of yore and then a note recommending you buy a cake from your local bakery instead
