there is a lot of “i feel this claim needs evidence but it is also obvious and widely‐recognized and has a whole school of literature about it so i just picked the top search result” going on here
for example, “indigenous and local communities were colonial subjects and victims [three random citations]”
@Lady i was told in college that obvious and widely recognized claims did not need citations and in fact probably shouldn’t be cited because doing so is misleading
@Lady i feel like my legal studies professors were also of this opinion but i will grant that it can be a bit harder to know what is an obvious and widely accepted claim in a cross disciplinary context
though this one feels obvious enough that theres really no excuse
