Is it gauche to put my sincerely held religious beliefs into my fantasy novel

Like I know Tolkien did it but he also gave us Spanish Pirate Racism Army so we can't just copy the guy

@akjcv why would you want to pretend you don’t hold your sincerely held religious beliefs

@Lady two reasons: one, i sometimes find it annoying when others do it, though i now realize that this is mostly when people are obviously using their stories to proselyatize, and two, i worry that it threatens the separation of the secondary world. i mean, i don't talk about Marx either, even though there's a bit about a worker's revolution, because Marx isn't part of the secondary world

@akjcv @Lady i mean if you can figure out how to talk about your beliefs re: labor rights and the class struggle without talking about Marx or using his coinages, surely you can also talk about your religious beliefs in the same way?

@Satsuma @Lady right, absolutely. but i'm trying to figure out if i need to. since it's ultimately a set of names and ideas which are much (much, much, much) less well-known than Marx, can I get away with just including them as-is?

@akjcv @Satsuma your worldbuilding should not dictate what you can write; what you want to write should dictate your worldbuilding
