@jamey @zkat coming out day was originally intended to demonstrate that gay people exist in the workplace and make notable contributions to society, as a political project, not just a day of telling your friends and loved ones you’re gay
i still think there’s a place for that today even for people who are already “out”
@zkat @jamey i think you're viewing this as a personal performance but my point is that there are other ways of defining it. e.g., you made KDL, but i’ve read the KDL docs numerous times and don’t recall ever seeing anything indicating that it was a gay software / specification. so you could be more out in that context, and that’s just one of many
@Lady @zkat I think it's important to note that you also don't have to be more out in any context
the historical note about the origin of coming out day was helpful! I'm not seeing the rest of this conversation going helpful places though; I think the two of you may be talking past each other, and at any rate I'm not sure I want to be in this thread further
@jamey @zkat do all of your coworkers and all of the people everywhere who use your software know that it was written by a gay person? if not, you could probably be out more aggressively
