Ah it's the Fourth of July which means I get to do my yearly ID4 apologia
The movie Independence Day is actually a movie about how we need to move beyond the petty concerns of nationalism and unite as a single human race to combat the threats we face as a species
The movie and especially the marketing made it seem like a very "rah rah go America" story but once you actually pay attention to what the movie is saying, you realize that's not the case
@coriander as far as american myths go, “america has the kind of batshit fucker who will fly an alien ship into the alien ship base in order to plant a trojan horse virus so some other batshit fucker can blow a different ship up by flying directly into its laser beam” isn’t half bad
