the Nausicaä movie is great because it is like what if we had romantic pushback against the age of science and reason but it WASN’T poisoned by European intellectualism
• it’s got science going too far
• it’s got body horror
• it’s got strange and powerful creatures beyond human comprehension
• it’s got an invisible yet deadly and pervasive illness
• it’s got people being constant fuckups as they attempt to enact their petty politics in a world they do not control or understand
• it’s got an incredibly hot yet morally ambiguous lesbian
@Lady wait who’s the lesbian
@aescling Princess Kushana
@Lady oh yeah i like her
@Lady Wow this movie just shot WAY up on my List
@coriander @Lady it’s pretty good, can recommend
@coriander @Lady reminds me, i need to finish the manga sometime
@aescling @coriander p.s. i have it if we want to do a Viewing in the discord server
@Lady @coriander 👀 👀 👀
@coriander honestly the only Miyazaki films which i really consider Culturally Significant are Nausicaä and Mononoke and personally i think Nausicaä says it better; it's the one where i’m like “yeah this movie will change how you think about art if you let it”
(there are other Culturally Significant Ghibli films but they have different directors)
every time i try to read gothic fiction i am just like “why isn’t this Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind”
