if the US enshrined gay marriage and an expansion of the definition of the family with the rights and protections that entails into its constitution, you know for sure it would not be a common talking point to constantly bring up the “authoritarian” nature of the US state and its demonstrably terrible human rights record, and instead you’d just get a bunch of chauvinist nationalists taking up all the space
@aescling which is a correct read. the stance of communism is that social liberty is more important than personal liberty
@aescling i think what worries people in the US about “authoritarian” states is not that they are anti-democratic but that they are anti–personal liberty/freedom
